Great Litter Pick

By Dave - Posted on 12 May 2018

On Saturday 12th May 2018, the residents of Kingston Road and Cranedown came together for an amazing effort in clearing litter around the area. Organised by Steven Sparks, one of our residents, we collected all manner of litter from beer cans, hubcaps and rugby boots through to engine oil and left over electricity cable.

We had around 20 residents take part, some of whom are in the photo above, and this included some very willing children. We collected 20 sacks of rubbish. A big thank you to Steven for organising it, to everyone who turned up and helped and to Carolyn and Helen for their catering!

We were visited by the Daily Mail as part of their Great Plastic Pick Up campaign - a journalist and photographer who interviewed residents and took photos.

As some of the litter appeared to have been lying for over 10 years (based on Best Before Dates on packaging collected) this is something we would like to keep on top of. To support the regular Litter Free Lewes pick ups, we agreed that we should repeat this event - probably in the winter when some of the vegetation has died back, making it easier to access some of the more leafy areas.
